The brass pod

Commodity / Couture, 2026 · Lost-wax cast brass · Edition of fifteen

The casting. Mr Emmanuel Fosu works in Kumasi, in the lost-wax tradition of Asante brass casters. A wax model is built around the real pod, encased in clay and fired; the wax runs out and molten brass takes its place. The mould is broken to release the pod, so no two casts are identical. Bright Ackwerh and Matthew Abuatey Martey worked alongside him.

The provenance. The model pod was given by a family farm in Akyem Tafo, Eastern Region, Ghana. The same pod sat in the foundry in Kumasi and is the shape every cast in this edition carries.
